Functional Skills Exams - GCSE Equivalency Test


What are functional skills?

Functional Skills qualifications are designed to enable students to develop confidence and fluency in maths and English. The skills taught will help learners to participate and progress in education, training and employment.

Functional Skills assessments are graded as either a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’.

Equivalency test

Functional Skills qualifications are available at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. As an approximate comparison, Entry Level 1 – 3 is below GCSE level, Level 1 is comparable to GCSE grades 1 – 3, and Level 2 is comparable to GCSE grade 4 or (C grade). Most universities and employers consider functional skills level 2 is an Equivalency test for GCSEs.

Paper or On-screen

Exams can be taken online (answering questions on the computer screen) or as a paper exam (traditional paper based written exam). Exams are conducted throughout the year, but you have to book in advance. These exams are externally assessed and carried out in exam conditions at our assessment centres.

Awarding bodies

If We work with, Pearson Edexcel, AQA, OCR and NCFE exam boards. Our default notice period to book an exam is 2 weeks’ notice. Some exams can be booked sooner (even next day) for an additional cost. If you require additional information, please call us to discuss your requirements. Default exams time is either 11:00am or 2:00pm Weekdays (Monday to Friday).
